Once the contest module has been enabled in your account, you may choose it under CAMPAIGNS > CONTEST. The following is a step by step account on how to set up a new contest:

1) Create a new contest by pressing the create contest button

2) Name the contest (This is for your reference only)

3) Choose your contest message.
This is the automatic ‘viral message’ that will go to referees when a contest entrant refers a friend. This message should include a special coded dynamic link that will keep track of referees and referrer, and assign an extra ballot to the referrer. This special dynamic code, which is different for each contest, is displayed at the bottom of the contest details page, after the words “Usage for campaign message:”

Here is some example text for your message:

Dear {my-friendname}*:

{fname} thought you’d be interested in this contest.
Click on the link below to enter yourself for a chance to win:

Link to enter contest (see instructions above)

You could win:

  • Prize 1
  • Prize 2
  • Prize 3

4) Choose the source to tag to all of the referees.
Each referee will be tagged with the source you select here, so that you can easily report on, or select the new contacts that have been added through the contest promotion.

5) Choose the custom field to store the friends name in the referer’s contact record.
Set up the custom field you would like to use in
CONTACTS > CUSTOM FIELDS. You may use any field name you would like. This is the same field you will use in message if you would like to personally address the referral e-mails.

6) Choose the start date and end date of the contest.

7) Create the initial form text:
This is the text that will appear on the automatically generated success page that will be displayed after a contact enters the contest through a form on your web site.

Here is some example text that you may use or edit to your liking:

Congratulations, you’ve been entered in the contest! Good luck!
Would you like another chance to win? Send your friends an e-mail about this contest. You will receive additional entry credits for every friend that enters with you. They can earn entry credits too!

8) Create privacy text:
This is the text that will appear on the same page, below the form to refer a friend to assure your contacts of the privacy and security of their friends info, and what we will do with it.

Here is some example text that you may use or edit to your liking:

We will only send an e-mail to your friend with the offer to fill out an entry form themselves. If they decline to do so, we will not send them any other e-mails.

9) Create success page text:
This is the text that will appear on the second success page; this is the second automatically generated success page that will be displayed after a contact refers a friend.

Here is some example text that you may use or edit to your liking:

Congratulations! You have just been entered in the contest one more time. Click go back to enter another friends info and receive another chance to win!

10) SAVE the contest

11) Create an entry form on your site:
Create a standard form on your web site, using the generate form feature under the ACTIONS tab. Place the special contest URL in the success URL field when generating the form. The special contest URL can be found on the bottom of the edit contest page after the text, “Usage for success URL:”. This URL is different for each contest. This is an essential component of the contest because it is what enters each contact in the contest after they have filled out your form, and returns the automatically generated page that will ask the contact to refer a friend for another chance to win. (as in point 6, above)
